How do we make it through this?
They say bad news comes in threes, but I stopped counting.
First it was news of a couple’s divorce.
Then it was news of a family members cancer diagnosis.
Then it was the announcement of a friend’s passing.
Then it was the text of a family being broken up.
Then it was the story of a friend who had been physically assaulted.
Then it was the email of a friendship ending.
Then it was the conversation about a friend thinking of leaving her spouse.
Then it was the DM about how a friend’s brother might not make it through.
Then it was the news about the damage from the storm.
Then it was the Facebook post about their miscarriage.
Then it was …
Bad news doesn’t come in threes.
It just comes.
Like ocean waves it is endless and relentless.
Moments of stillness leave us wondering when the next wave will hit the shore.
And it hits.
Bad news arrives and we are left paralyzed in the great wonder of why and how.
As your heart drops, bad news puts a lump in your throat, leaving you feeling empty and yet full of questions.
I know you know what this is like.
It is not easy to be a human.
And yet hidden in the middle of it all is this faint glimmer of hope that comes in with the tide to say, “We are going to make it through this.”
Bad news comes, but hope doesn’t leave us alone.
Making it Through
A poem / reflection / writing
How do you continue when it feels like the end? How do you get out of bed in the morning? How do you make the coffee or scramble the eggs? How do you walk the dog? How do you get ready to leave the house when you don’t want to leave the house? How do you sit down to pray? How do you endure? How do you do what you used to do before everything changed? How do you show up to work? How do you respond when someone asks, “How’s it going?” How do you continue? How do you answer emails? How do you make it through? Because we are going to make it through this. How do we trust God is still in this? How do we hold onto hope? How do we sit through traffic? How do we shop for groceries? How do we check social media? How do we say what we don’t want to admit is true? How do we sleep? How do we rest? How do we clean the house? How do we find the energy? How do we move the clothes from the washer to the dryer to the drawers? How do we cling to faith? How do we do it all again tomorrow?

We hold on tight to Yahusha Moshiach. We find His Grace and Strength within ourselves to to turn our faces up to Him as we whisper something like "It's bad right now, but my trust is in you to pull me through and out of these flames, as You have done so many times before". He promises He will never leave us nor forsake us. It's in these valleys where He proves it.
"Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the utter most parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night," even the darkness is not dark to You; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with You." {Psalm 139}
