Hello!
When I first started writing poetry, my pieces were long, monologue-style spoken word poems. I aimed to say as much as possible with as many words as I could. Over the years, my style has evolved. Now, when I sit down to write, I want to express as much as I can in as few words as possible.
At the beginning, I wanted to share everything I knew and believed with my readers and listeners. I didn’t want to leave anything hidden or unsaid. Now, I seek to invite them into a place of rest and hope—sharing just a thought or two, not every wrestling idea in my mind.
When I started as a spoken word poet, I thought my voice needed to be loud and captivating. I spoke in ways that might have made you feel a little uncomfortable. Yes, I was that guy. But after years of performing, I've found my voice. Now, I approach the microphone with confidence and gentleness, inviting you into a space of hope and rest, offering words of encouragement.
And I hope that’s what today’s poem does. I hope it leads you into that space of hope and rest.
With Hope,
Tanner
Forever
Let this life be full of meaningful moments
and slow afternoons.
Give your time to creating and connecting,
Coffee shops and church pews.
Join the quiet mornings
and in the evening, a full dinner table.
Let your heart, head, and gut
be on the same team.
Speak honest words of love.
Pray them, too.
Open your hands to the world,
show the cards you’re playing,
scars you’ve received,
and hope you’re holding.
Hide nothing.
Water the joy that lives deep inside
and let it grow,
let it be given away.
And accept the invitation to sit beneath the light.
See what is in front of you:
A kindness,
A love,
A forever.
